Pretty Places: Christmas at Chiangdao Nest Resort in Chiangdao, Chiangmai, Thailand

Pretty Places Header

Hello!

I just drop by to update a little more about my Christmas. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas like I did. I spent my Christmas Eve at Chiagdao Nest Resort in Chiangdao with my friends and my sister. Chiangdao is a suburb district of Chiangmai province located approximately 1.5 hours from Chiangmai city center. Chiangdao is the place where I feel closer to nature every time I go.  There are so many places to visit in Chiangdao such as Chiangdao cave, and Doi Chiangdao National park. Moreover, many outdoor activities are available for  those who love outdoor activities such as trekking, cycling and rafting. For me, Chiangdao is my most favorite district in Chiangmai province when it comes to the place to unwind. Usually, when I go to Chiangdao with friends, we love to read books, cook food using charcoals, knit some scarfs and play musics. However, this trip we hadonly enough time to have BBQ dinner together on Christmas Eve because we arrived Chiangdao at 8 pm.

Last year, my friends were hired to play music on New Year's Eve party held for guests at a lovely resort in Chiagdao called Chiangdao Nest so I tagged along with them and ended up had a great time at this party. Therefore, this year I quickly accepted my friends' invitation to join their trip to Chiangdao Nest again. Chiangdao Nest Resort hold a Christmas Eve dinner party for their guests every year. This year was a BBQ buffet that we really enjoyed. We had so much fun catching up and dancing.   However, we did not stay at this resort like last year because it was fully booked so we had to stay at a small cozy resort nearby called Hobby Hut Cottage.

I wish I could stay one more night in Chiangdao but we all could spent only one night and we had to leave quite early. Even though it was just a short trip but I came back home with joy. :)

Holiday Series: Dessert Journey - Red Velvet Christmas

Christmas is just 2 days away. I am so excited even though most of Thai people are Buddhists so Christmas is not actually the tradition for most Thai people and Christmas day is not traditional holiday. However, in Thailand,  there are Christmas celebrations in some households, restaurants and hotels. I love Christmas food. And I also love exploring variety of Christmas food from different countries.

If you have not decided what to make for dessert for Christmas dinner, why not make red velvet desserts. I have be en having a crush on red velvet cake for a couple of years. What I love about red velvet is that red velvet is usually not very sweet cake with a hint of coco flavor. Serving red velvet cake or red velvet dessert with cream cheese frosting is just heavenly delicious!   So, when I started using pinterest, I created a board named Red Velvet Love right away. I have selected 4 red velvet recipes that I think suitable for festive occasion like Christmas from my pinterest board.

Christmas red velvet snow cake  by Stephcookie at Rasberri cupcakes:: I love the idea of decorating the red velvet cake with snowman shape macaroons.

Red Velvet  Trifle by Lori at Recipe Girl :: I think this red velvet trifle is quiet easy to make and can be used as decoration as well. This trifle will add the Christmas accent to the party.

Low carb red velvet crepe cake from I breath...I'm hungry...

Mini red velvet cheesecake by Betty Crocker :: Making mini red velvet cheesecakes is also  a convenient idea because they are already in serving portions.

Merry Christmas !!

Today I would like to give you and update on my little crochet project that I am working really hard on. New Year  is coming very soon.  Therefore, I am making New Year gifts to give to my colleagues,  the bank tellers at the bank that I often go to, the staffs at the cafe that I often go to, etc.  I usually do this every year if I have time. Last year I gave them mini ferns in a pot that I plant them myself. I think this is a great way to say thank you and show my appreciation to those who have been helping me or kind to me over the year. I have started gathering ideas about what to make since last month.  After trial and errors , these 2 crochet patterns are the winners.  I have 10 more bookmarks to make so I better get back to work...  :)

Pretty Places: 137 Pillars House, Chiangmai, Thailand

Pretty Places Header

This post I would like to bring you to a very beautiful hotel in my hometown, Chiangmai. I have heard from many of my friends that this hotel is a very beautiful modern oriental style hotel. So, my sisters and I were not hesitate to check this hotel out when we had a free afternoon. This hotel is called 137 Pillars House as it has the original 19th century teak wood building filled with history which named 137 Pillars House.

The landscape of this hotel is very impressive. The landscape team of this property definitely did a wonderful job preserving the existing lady palm and mimosa trees.  Those trees are so beautiful. Those trees together with the heritage building create the  feeling of the orient 40 years ago.

You might remember that I just posted an outfit post that all the photos were taken during this hotel visit. I took so many photos when we were there. I just want to post all of the photos.  It was very hard to to choose which to share with you. Let's take a journey with me!

After entering the hotel, you will find the colonial style lobby area which is very inviting.

The view from the Parlor Lounge overlooking the  greenery wall next to the pool.

This is part of the Parlor Lounge. Although the color of the decor of this room is quite dark, there are lots of windows that let the natural light into the room. That day were quite hot so we chose  to sit in the library bar which has air-conditioned instead.

I fell in love with is elegant but cozy corner in the Library Bar (or Jack Bein's Bar).

Normally they serve afternoon tea at the Parlor Lounge. However, we had afternoon tea in this Library bar . which located next to the Parlor Lounge. We spent about an hour having tea catching up with my sisters. There were no other guests in that room so we kinda had the whole room for ourselves which was really nice.

This is the beautiful centerpiece on the table where we had afternoon tea. This fresh flower centerpiece freshen up the the room wonderfully.

The other half of Jack Bein's Bar is the chess corner.

After having the afternoon tea, my sisters and I relax and enjoy the atmosphere on the daybed in the garden.

This wall is such a beautiful backdrop so we couldn't help but took some picture with this wall before heading home. This is one of my sisters, Ploen.

Before heading back home, I just noticed that there were the hotel's tricycles parking in the front of the hotel. I love the color combination that they use for those tricycles. Blue, cream and orange wooden color is such an modern but elegant color palette.

I was so happy that I spent quality time with my sisters at this beautiful  hotel. I am still can not believe that there is such a luxurious hotel with so many big trees within the downtown area. I think I will definitely come back when I need to find a quiet place to relax or work.

Style Me: Afternoon Walk at 137 Pillars House

Style Me: Afternoon walk at Pillar 317

It's been a while since I did my last outfit post. I actually have lots of
photos for outfit posts that I have prepared to uploaded but I have been very busy with my shop (Floretta). After selling at Nimman Art Prominade which was a very famous art and design fair held annually in Chiangmai, Thailand., I was so exhausted. However, there are still a lot more to do in December because this is usually a very busy month for people here in Chiangmai due to high season for tourism. There are so many friends and relatives are planning to come visit me and my family here during the last couple of weeks of this month so I have to prepare a list of where to bring them for sightseeing and relaxing. Therefore, I went to this hotel, 137 Pillars House, in order to gather information and have afternoon tea. So, I thought why not shooting and outfit post there. Luckily, the light was pretty great during that time. The intereior of this hotel is so elegant and classy; however, the interior design is quite dark so we did the photo shoot only outdoor. It was a fun afternoon eventhough the weather was quite hot. We spent almost an hour wandering in the garden.

Floretta Shop at Nimman Art Prominade 2012 (Day 1)

Many of you might already know that I have my etsy shop selling clothing and jewelry called Floretta. This week I have an opportunity to participate in Nimman Art Promenade which is and event that held in Chiangmai (my hometown) every December. This this second year for my shop to be here.

I had already set up some part of my shop on the day before so I dini't have a lot of setting up to do on the the first day of this event. I was so exciting when the first customer stop buy. ( I have not been in the scene of selling at a physical store for a while. )

I was so exhausted but it was such a fun experience. There were so many people visiting this event yesterday.  I was so busy selling at my shop so I still have not really explore the other shops yet. My friends told me that there are so many cute and stylish handmade products  that  I would definitely buy... We'll see :)
