Food Journey: lunch at Lapin Cafe, Chiangmai, Thailand

Saturday, March 30, 2013

I have been busy and away from blogosphere a lot during the pass couple of months since I decided to become an entrepreneur. It took a lot of energy to be a full time owner of my own business which is handmade phone case business. Of course, there will be a post about my business start up journey coming up soon. Now all the tasks of setting up my own business are done. I think it is time that I fully come back to the blogosphere. So, I thought why not start with something new. Has anyone noticed  that I have just revamped my blog with this new look? Love it?

Let's  move on to what I plan to share with you today. It has been a while since the last time I took you with me on my gastronomic trip.  Let's visit Lapin Cafe, one of my favourite  restaurants in my hometown, Chiangmai. Last year, I have blogged about Lapin Cafe a little bit, when tumblr was used as my main blog. I have kept postponing writing about this restaurant Although it is my favourite restaurant that I most visit.   You might be wondering that why I have not written a lot about Lapin Cafe. In fact, I have not actually written a blog post dedicated entirely to Lapin cafe because I did not have any good picture of either the food nor the place. I usually visit Lapin Cafe during evening time so there was not mush light for photo taking. Finally, last week, I had a chance to have lunch at Lapin Cafe. Finally, natural light for my photo!

Pizza at Lapin Cafe, Chiangmai, Thailand

Pizza (half mediterranean and half spinach)

I would like to begin with a very classic dish, pizza. I love the pizza crust at Lapin Cafe very much. If you love thin crust pizza with crispy edge, you will love the pizzas here. This size is not too big and not too small (approx. 9 inch diametre). I would say it is a good size for one or two person. However, in Thailand, it is common to order      serval dishes to share so that everyone get to eat everything.   It Mediterranean is my favourite pizza topping here at Lapin cafe. Mediterranean pizza at Lapin cafe is rich in flavour of anchovy and sun-dried tomato complementing with the spiciness of chillies. At Lapin cafe, customers also have option to order 2 pizzas in one. This time I ordered half mediterranean  for me and half spinach for my son. Yummy!

Truffle Spaghetti at Lapin Cafe, Chiangmai, Thailand

Truffle spaghetti

This is one of the new dishes that has been added to Lapin Cafe's menu recently. It has become an instant hit. This pasta dish is filled with aromatic flavour of truffle oil that you will not be disappointed!

Anchiovy Cream Cheese Bread at Lapin Cafe, Chiangmai, Thailand

Anchovy cream cheese Bread

This is another new dish that was just added to the restaurant menu. I love anchovies so the combination of cream cheese and anchovies caught my attention. After having the first bite, it was delicious.

Clam at Lapin Cafe, Chiangmai, Thailand

Garlic clams with sliced warm baguette

This dish is for clam lovers. Everyone in my family loves clams. We were not hesitate to try when this dish was first added to the restaurant's menu. Sautéed clams with garlic topped with grated parmesan is such a great dish to start this wonderful meal with my family. This was the first dish that served on that day.

This is the ambience inside the restaurant. Love the bold yellow wall! Inside the restaurant is air-conditioned so it is perfect for those super hot day.

8 Blogs that Rock and Why

Sunday, March 17, 2013

I am currently doing online class and workshop at Decor8. This week exercise is super fun because I got to visit many blogs and choose 8 blogs that I think rock! Let's take a look at what I chose.

1. A Beautiful mess

I believe that many of you have visited and revisited "A Beautiful Mess Blog". This was the first blog that I was seriously following because I love all of their content. Their photos are awesome because they are beautiful filled with stories. A Beautiful Mess's contents are fun to read and useful. The authors are excellent in engaging with audience. All DIYs on this blog are interesting and very creative.

Their blog posts are well-categorized so it is quite easy for readers to navigate.

2. Wendy's Lookbook

This is my favorite fashion blog. This blog not only has awesome pictures but also the blog's contents are very useful. This blog is filled with tips and tricks of how to achieve different looks by mixing and matching your clothes. This blogs contents will make you coming back for more.

The photo template that Wendy uses on her blog post is very clever because each post show the recap of all pictures of each post in collage form. Thus, if the readers want to see those picture in bigger size, the readers have to click the "more" link in order to read the full post.

This blog also has lots of Vlog or video logs posted on Youtube and they are so fun to watch especially if you are a fashionista. Most of the videos are about tips and tricks.

3. Kitty & Buck
All the web graphics are well coordinated in the same theme. In each post, she usually place a category banner/header coordinated with the theme which help readers to quickly identify the category of that post. Those graphics were all created by Kitty herself. Those coordinated web graphics make the blog looks professional.

Kitty also has done a great job in presenting all her sponsors in the form of blog post. She put a lot of effort in designing the graphics for each sponsor post.

4. One Sheepish Girl

This blog is mainly about knitting and crocheting. This is a great example blog that focus on one theme and incorporate with the author's personal life.  Consequently, the blog not only  portrays professional vibe but also  feel real.

5. Kyla is Inspired

"Kyla is  inspired" is one of the blogs that I love their over all aesthetics. Kyla's blog posts are beautiful and fun to read. The readers can easily tell that Kyla pays a lot of attention to details by  professionally adorn all her photos and her collage with her own graphic design elements.

6. Iowa Girl Eats

The photo and the recipes are awesome. The recipes found on this blogs are very creative. The pictures of food on this blog make me hungry every time I visit this blog. This is one of my favorite food blogs. The layout of this blog is very functional so it is easy for readers to navigate. The readers can easily find the recipes by category.

7. Dressed by Style

I love the way the author arranged all the pictures for each blog post. All photo arrangements used in each post definitely go very well with the overall aesthetics of the blog which is very important for a design blog.

 8. Adri 's World

The minimalist design of the blog make the picture of each post beautifully stand out. It is a great way to draw attention to the posts. I also love all the magazine style pictures on each post which create professional look. On the other hand, the family pictures make the blog feel real and heart warming.

wow!  This exercise definitely makes me want to blog more often. So, see you soon.

Green Monster Smoothie สมูตตี้สปิแนช สูตรเข้มข้น เปี่ยมด้วยคุณค่า เครื่องดื่มสำหรับเด็กและทุกคนในครอบครัว

Now, in Thailand, the whether is becoming warmer and warmer everyday. This month is the transition from winter to summer for Thailand. Thus, I think it is time to start my smoothie routine. So, this morning I thought I should try a smoothie recipe that I had been wanting to tried for so many months. This smoothie recipe is called "green monster smoothie" which I first saw at Iowa Girl Eats.  Kristin from Iowa Girl Eats had drunk this smoothie  as her lunch when she was on diet after her vacation. I was impressed when she wrote that Green monster smoothie does not taste healthy at all even though the ingredients are very healthy.

Let's take a look at what are inside the green monster smoothie.

Ingredients : Green Monster Smoothie

Key Ingredients of Green Monster Smoothie

  • Spinach - Fresh spinach is highly recommended.
  • Milk - any kind of milk
  • Banana - any kind of banana
  • Nutty butter - Peanut butter is the most commonly chosen butter for green monster smoothie.
  • Yogurt (plain or vanilla flavor)

Ingredients for Green Monster Smoothie at Praew Channel

  • Spinach 4 cup
  • Soy milk 250 ml. (low fat and low sugar)
  • Banana 1/2 cup
  • Sunflower butter 1 - 2 teaspoon
  • Greek yogurt 100 gram

Yield : 2 servings

Let's get to know a little bit about the type of banana I use for my green monster smoothie. I just use bananas that I already have in my kitchen which is Kluai Leb Mu Nang. In Thailand, Kluai Leb Mu Nang is what we call a type of banana that has lady finger liked shape. Kluai Leb Mu Nang actually can be translated as lady finger banana.  Lady finger banana is not too sweet and quite small which is a good bite size for my son. He is  2 years old and he loves to eat by himself so the size of lady finger banana is perfect for him. He can easily hold a lady finger banana in his little hand and eat it by himself.  Lady finger banana is a seasonal fruit in Thailand unlike other kinds of banana that can be found all year round. So, I normally can not wait to buy lady finger banana when its season begins.

Sunflower Butter

I saw this sunflower butter on the sandwich spread shelf at my local supermarket. I decided to try is because Sunflower seed is rich in nutritions and antioxidants. Do you know that sunflower seeds have 3 times more vitamin E that peanuts?

Green Monster Smoothie : Nutrition rich smoothie for kids

I often make fruits and veggie smoothies for my son because I think it is a quick and easy way to get my son to eat all the nutrition that he needs.  I can say that making this green monster smoothie for my family this morning was a success. Everyone loves it. It is an easy smoothie that rich in nutritious and taste awesome.  This smoothie will definite become my family's drink.    If anyone has a problem of getting your kids to eat vegetables, you definitely have to try this smoothie. I think it is a great breakfast idea as well. What a perfect drink to start your day with!

You can change to different kinds of vegetable or try different kinds of milk and yogurt to suit you nutrition need. For example, my husband would like to try adding protein power to this smoothie.

Remark: The important thing to remember is to carefully choose the milk and yogurt that is low in fat and sugar.

My List: Tea Time Embroidery Art

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Good morning...!

This morning was more peaceful than usual because my little twins sisters has flown to Bangkok so I had a quite morning to write this draft this blog post. During my sisters visit, we were mostly brain storming about our new house that we are planning to build.  Pinterest has been one of our major brain storming tools. When I was pinning interior design ideas, I stumbled upon super cute ideas to decorate my future house.  I have found very cute embroidery patterns that I really like to make. I think these designs would look adorable on my kitchen wall in my future home.
